POSITION ON ISSUES

The Board of Directors of the Racine Taxpayers Association has taken the following positions on these issues.

2011 AGAINST "climate change legislation" program that mandates 10% of energy produced must be subsidized with "alternate energy" sources.

2011 FOR School Choice.  Parents need more say in which schools their children should attend.  Poor people have do not have the financial ability to make broad choices.  School Choice as proposed by the State of Wisconsin for Racine give those parents that choice.

2011 AGAINST  the use of administrators (e.g. Village Administrators) by municipalities.  These high level bureaucrats foster government growth, high taxes, and increased regulations.

2010  AGAINST transferring control to SERTA of all transit transit operations for Racine County.  SERTA will be controlled by Milwaukee politics that we feel will short shrift the BUS and other Racine County transit efforts.

2009 AGAINST public funding of KRM commuter rail.

2006  FOR zero dollar budget increase across all City of Racine departments.  City taxpayers need a break and Mayor Becker's budget demands gives them one.

2006  FOR neighborhood schools.  Costs less and kids like being closer to home anyway.

2006  FOR the Racine Health Care Clinic.  More people covered at same costs.

2006  AGAINST universal preschool.  Undetermined costs with no proof of effectiveness.

2004  AGAINST the expansion of the County Jail.  The jail is not over-filled.  It is over used.

2004  FOR a Colorado style TABOR.  Limiting government growth at all levels is essential.

2000  FOR the joint dispatch center.  Consolidating services saves taxpayers money.
